Frequently Asked Questions
Product Questions
Think of it as a second clear coat - except this one laughs at bird droppings and makes water run away scared. It's a liquid that bonds to your paint and stays there for years. Wax sits on top and disappears after a few washes. Ceramic becomes part of your paint. Wax = weeks. Ceramic = years.
Wax is a temporary umbrella. Ceramic is a roof. Wax sits on top and vanishes after a few washes. Ceramic bonds to your paint and becomes part of it. Wax offers basically no UV protection and zero hardness. Ceramic gives you real UV defense and protection that lasts years. It's not even a fair fight.

One kit covers a full-size truck or SUV. Two kits? Coat a second car, add another layer, or cover wheels, trim, and touch-ups.
Paint, clear coat, wheels, and exterior trim - all fair game when used as directed. Always test a hidden spot first. Glass, rubber seals, and plastic trim? Skip them unless you've tested and know what you're doing.
Application Questions
Prep is everything. Skip it and you're just sealing in dirt and disappointment. At minimum: wash, clay bar, and IPA wipe-down. Want the best results? Polish first to remove swirls and defects - ceramic locks in whatever's there, good or bad. The coating bonds to clean paint, not the grime you were too lazy to remove.
Prep steps:
- Wash vehicle thoroughly with pH-neutral soap
- Clay bar to remove bonded contaminants
- Polish if needed to remove swirls/defects
- IPA wipe-down to remove polishing oils
Shade only. Never direct sunlight - unless you enjoy chasing high spots like a sad puppy. Ideal: 50-80°F, low humidity. Too hot and it flashes before you can level it. Too cold and it takes forever to cure. Garage is your friend here.
- Complete full prep (wash, clay, polish if needed, IPA wipe)
- Apply ZCoatings 10X Diamond in small sections (2x2 ft) using foam applicator
- Use cross-hatch pattern for even coverage
- Wait for flash (hazing) - typically 1-3 minutes depending on conditions
- Buff off with clean, plush microfiber towel
- Inspect for high spots and level if needed
Allow 24 hours for full cure before exposure to water.
Yep. Wait for the first coat to flash and level (about 1-2 hours), then go again. Just know you're eating into your remaining product - plan accordingly. Multiple coats can boost durability and gloss, but one solid coat is plenty for real protection.
Maintenance & Durability
Up to 5 years - if you don't treat your car like a dumpster. Wash it, maintain it, and this coating stays bonded to your paint. Wax gives up after a month. This stuff requires actual effort to kill.
Maintenance requirements:
- Wash regularly with pH-neutral soap (no harsh detergents)
- Avoid automatic car washes with brushes - they can mar the coating
- Use the two-bucket method with grit guards
- Dry with clean microfiber towels or blower
- Annual inspection recommended to assess coating condition
Neglect (going months without washing, harsh chemicals, abrasive washing) will reduce coating lifespan.
It'll laugh at swirl marks from a bad towel. It won't laugh at a shopping cart or a tree branch. Ceramic makes your paint harder to mess up during normal washing - it's not a force field. Keys, branches, road debris? Still gonna hurt. But your weekly wash? Way safer now.
